When Installing a Propane Generac Generator, You Should Consider the Following Setbacks:
- Distance from buildings
- According to Generac, an air-cooled generator should be at least 5 ft from all doors, windows, laundry, and crawl space vent openings. You should also follow the manufacturer's recommendations, as not following them could void your warranty. Some states and local municipalities may have additional requirements, such as keeping the generator at least 5 ft from the property line or 20 ft from any building.
- Distance from combustible materials
- The generator should be at least 2–5 ft away from combustible materials, such as your house, deck, porch, and vegetation. You should also give the generator 36 in of clearance from any combustible materials, such as trees, plants, and fencing.
- Distance from other structures
- The generator should be at least 18–24 in off the nearest brick, block, or vinyl siding exterior of the foundation, and at least 3 ft 6 in off the front of the power company meter base. You should also make sure the generator is not placed under a deck or other structure that is closed in and would limit or contain airflow.
- Distance from propane tanks
- The generator should be placed at least 10 ft away from the propane tanks. You should also make sure the fuel pressure regulator is located 8–10 ft away from the generator fuel inlet.
You can also consider other factors when choosing a location for your generator, such as aesthetics and how close it is to gas lines and the electric meter. Contact us today so we can help you choose the best location for your generator.
